In our last post we discussed setting the perfect tabletop for a dinner party. Now that your dining room table is fully dressed (minus the tablecloth—you don’t want to hide the glamour of your solid wood dining table!), you can focus on one of our favorite pastimes: party planning.
Look at Logistics
How many people are you inviting? This will be the main determinant of whether you seat everyone at your dining room table or serve a buffet-style meal that’s more informal.
If you have an extension dining table or drop-leaf dining table, such as our Jackson 3 Piece Dining Set, you’ll want to factor in the additional seating and serving space that each can provide.
You’ll also need a firm head count for buying food. In the planning stages, figure out what type of meal you’ll be serving, whether it’s heavy appetizers or a multi-course gourmet dinner.
Don’t Forget the FUN
Just because your dining room table is set as if you just aced finishing school doesn’t mean that your party has to be stuffy. Remember—the whole point of having friends and family over for dinner is to have fun!
A fail-proof suggestion on how to make your dinner party a winner party is to have a theme. Here are a few of our favorite theme nights:
- Murder-Mystery. Who doesn’t love a classic game of Clue?
- Mad Men. Celebrate an era with a 1960s party
- Fiesta Fun. Highlight one country’s fare; everyone loves a Mexican Fiesta (don’t forget the piñata!) or a fresh Mediterranean-style Greek Night
- Summer Solstice. Note the wonderful transition of seasons with a party
If you’re always trying to squeeze an extra guest in at the dining table for a dinner party, then you’ll never regret purchasing an extension table. Check out Dinette.com’s Laguna 7 Piece Dining Set, which features a self-storing butterfly leaf extension!
